Sports Pilot Group

The Sports Pilot Group (SPG) is a subsidiary unit of the Aero Club Malta. The SPG was formed to provide aircraft hangar shelter at the Malta International Airport (MIA).

The SPG reached an agreement with MIA for the lease of site at Luqa Airport adjacent to aircraft Park 5. On this site the SPG erected successfully the first Type T15 hangar which can accommodate four private aircraft with wingspan up to 11.25 metres. Construction started in February 2006 and finished in May 2006 and involved about 800 man hours of work.

The Type T15 hangar is an innovative modular solution which offers a robust low profile steel structure clad in pre-painted Alubel sheeting. The innovative design affords each resident aircraft an individual bay with its own gate without the need to move other aircraft to enter/exit the hangar.

The T15 can accommodate about 144 different types of private light aircraft including Piper PA28 Cherokee, Cessna 150 and 172 variants plus almost all ultra-light aircraft known to exist.
